Taylor Swift has been the subject of Kanye West’s music on multiple occasions, with his then-wife Kim Kardashian defending him despite Swift’s controversial name drop in his song “Famous.” But it seems like Taylor made some references to Kim in her new album The Tortured Poet’s Society, which released on April 19, leading Swifties to flood Kim’s social media with references to the lyrics.
RelatedSpecifically, on Instagram this Friday, Kim faced severe trolling following the release of two supposed diss tracks by Taylor in the early hours of the morning. The songs were included in the surprise double album edition of Taylor's latest record.
One of the tracks, titled "thanK you aIMee," notably capitalizes the letters K, I, and M, seemingly aimed at a particular bully, with some fans convinced the reference is obvious in both title and lyrics.
“When I picture my hometown, there's a bronze spray-tanned statue of you,” some of the song’s lyrics read. “And a plaque underneath it that threatens to push me down the stairs at our school.”
Many people left comments on Kim’s recent Instagram posts, referencing the titular character of the song and leaving tongue-in-cheek comments like, “Thank you Aimee.” Even Kim’s birthday post to sister Kourtney Kardashian was spammed with references to Taylor’s song.
Of course, Kim isn’t the only person Taylor seems to reference in her new album, with fans theorizing some songs are about her controversial ex, Matty Healy, while other lyrics appear to be about her current boyfriend, Travis Kelce.
However, much of the album’s focus appears to be on her relationship with Joe Alwyn. It was publicly revealed the couple broke up in April 2023 after six years of dating. Clues leading up to the album’s release appeared to suggest Joe cheated on Taylor in Florida. There have also long been reports the British actor wasn’t comfortable with the publicity surrounding their relationship, which the singer seemed to reference in some of her new songs.
Joe hasn’t publicly reacted to Taylor’s new album (and neither has Kim, for that matter), but the actor was said to be nervous about how it would damage his reputation prior to the release.
Related“It’s safe to say that Joe is bracing himself for a lot of questions. No one is safe,” an insider told Life & Style. “Joe should be worried about what she reveals.”
Taylor announced her new album earlier this year at the Grammys, while accepting the award for Best Pop Vocal Album. "The way I can celebrate is by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the past two years, which is that my brand new album comes out April 19th," she said of what fans could expect. "It’s called The Tortured Poets Department and I’m going to go post the cover right now backstage."
Needless to say, fans are thrilled the new album has arrived and they’re having fun debunking hidden Easter Eggs in the tracks.
